phs Greenleaf Wins Three Top Horticulture Awards
phs Greenleaf has won three industry-leading awards for its work in interior and exterior landscaping for businesses.
The Plants at Work Awards, run by the association representing interior landscapers, awarded phs Greenleaf with gold awards for its design and installation work for the Speedy Innovation Centre in Milton Keyes and its sustainable Christmas designs for Novotel London Blackfriars. The team also collected a special Goodwill Award for their charity work with Ronald McDonald House Cardiff.
Speedy is the UK’s leading provider of tools, equipment and plant hire services and is known in the industry for its innovative environmental approach. Speedy opened the industry’s first low carbon innovation and hire centre in Milton Keynes, working closely with phs Greenleaf to ensure its interior and exterior landscaping delivered its green credentials.
phs Greenleaf developed and delivered a planting scheme designed to reduce the building’s carbon emissions, whilst showcasing Speedy’s unique branding and positioning in the market.
The team created a nine-metre-squared interior living wall in the centre using a variety of plants designed to meet the specific green agenda. As the wall was located in a part of the building that lacked enough natural daylight, the team installed additional lighting and hardy, shade-tolerant plants into the wall.
An impressive 18-metre exterior living wall was also created by phs Greenleaf at the entrance of the centre using the same design concepts and incorporating Speedy’s chevron logo using a variety of different plants.
The centre became home to a 102-metre-squared wildflower garden, created by phs Greenleaf to mimic a natural hay meadow. To promote well-being and greater biodiversity, the team planted soil-less turf containing 30 different wildflower species, both native and naturalised, to support a range of birds, bees and butterflies.
phs Greenleaf also achieved gold for its work with sustainable hotel Novotel London Blackfriars.
The Novotel London Blackfriars is one of the Accor Group’s most environmentally friendly hotels. BREEAM ranks it in the top 10% of all of the UK’s non-domestic buildings thanks to its ‘outstanding’ eco policies.
At the heart of its ethos is changing the mindset of guests so that sustainability becomes a top priority when choosing a hotel. Accor turned to phs Greenleaf to create bespoke, environmentally-friendly Christmas trees for the Novotel London Blackfriars.
The team created seven bespoke replica ‘eco’ Christmas trees and accessories for the lower level of the hotel, designed to delight guests without using traditional, unsustainable decorations like tinsel or glitter, and instead utilising natural, sustainable materials such as pine cones, hessian and pampas grass.
phs Greenleaf won the Goodwill Award for its charity work with Ronald McDonald House in Cardiff. The 30-bedroom house is a lifeline for families with children and babies being treated at the Children’s Hospital in Cardiff, providing free accommodation so they can remain close by without any financial burden.
The Greenleaf team donated four 7ft ready-decorated replica trees for the house and installed them in their three-day rooms, as well as one in their reception to greet visitors, helping to create a ‘home away from home’ and a festive feel for residents staying during Christmas.
Emily Vernon, Managing Director at phs Greenleaf, said: “We are incredibly proud of our team. They work very hard to provide our customers with the best possible designs, installs and servicing and it’s wonderful to see that recognised with these fantastic award wins. We look forward to another strong year ahead.”
